چکیده
This work describes the advances on a micro-newton torsional thrust balance for ionic liquid electrospray thruster (ILET) being developed in National University of Defense Technology. The adopts an asymmetric pendulum arm about flexural pivot, and electrostatic comb device is used calibration, which makes compact allows measurement level with high accuracy. To minimize influence gravity results, two-dimensional adjustable counterweight mechanism adapted to entire make its mass center close pivot axis. Mechanical oscillations are passively damped eddy current damper. A series experimental studies carried out vacuum chamber; results provide validation that has good linearity range 2–30 μN, resolution better than 0.21 μN settling time step force less 7 s, can meet requirements ILET operating mode alternating voltage polarity. In addition, we find generated by power supply wire non-negligible needs be considered actual measurement.

Theoperation andperformance of amicro-Hall thruster are characterized. The thruster is coaxial in design, with a 0.5 mm channel width and 4 mm outer diameter. The magnetic circuit includes a samarium cobalt permanent magnet generating approximately 0.7 T at the exit plane and 1 T inside the channel. Operation with a commercial hollow cathode neutralizer is achieved in the 10–40 W power range with...
متن کاملFEEP micro-thrust balance characterization and testing
A micro-thrust stand developed by the National Physical Laboratory under ESA funding was calibrated and characterized. The balance is based on the nulled-pendulum principle. The thruster is positioned in a constrained pendulum that is free to move only along the line of thrust. A capacitive displacement sensor measures the movement of the pendulum and is connected via a servo closed loop to a f...

متن کاملDesign and characterization of a nano-Newton resolution thrust stand.
The paper describes the design, calibration, and characterization of a thrust stand capable of nano-Newton resolution. A low uncertainty calibration method is proposed and demonstrated. A passive eddy current based damper, which is non-contact and vacuum compatible, is employed. Signal analysis techniques are used to perform noise characterization, and potential sources are identified. Calibrat...
